Wait, I think I meant that in reverse.

Thanks to a two-minute conversation with at work this morning, I find myself compelled to listen to the cast album (the original one, not the one from a few years ago) of Company this evening. I played Amy when I was a senior in college (Willow played Susan when she was a senior- that was pretty much the conversation). I gotta say… as much fun as I had playing that role, now that I’m in my mid-thirties it is clearer to me than ever before that college students have no business whatsoever doing this show. What the hell did we know about marriage or any of the rest of it at that age? Nothing, that’s what. Sorry-Grateful, for instance… the guys that were singing this song in our production… one of them was a sophomore for the love of Christ. Nineteen years old. He sang it beautifully, but what was he supposed to put behind it? Poor little guy. Jamie Flick. Poor little Jamie Flick. We knew it at the time, too… that there was something they were trying to get from us that we just didn’t have to give, no matter how talented we might have been.
Ah well. It was fun. 🙂

Funny. I played Amy. I ended up marrying a man named Paul in real life.
